Aperture Captures Infrastructure Monitoring
By Jeff Feinman

April 1, 2008 — Aperture, a company specializing in infrastructure management software for data centers, has added real-time monitoring of power consumption to its data center management system.

Aperture VISTA Infrastructure Monitoring is the newest piece of Aperture VISTA management suite, and takes tabs on the status of a data center’s entire physical infrastructure in real time. Company executives said the product, released on March 26, addresses a fundamental problem in IT facilities involving distributing the correct facility resources to meet business demands. Using Energy Efficiency Ratio metrics, which are defined by the Environmental Protection Agency, Aperture VISTA Infrastructure Monitoring offers improved measurement accuracy with regards to energy use, according to the company.

A unique benefit of Aperture VISTA Infrastructure Monitoring is what the company calls a “single pane of glass” real-time view of data center infrastructure. Aperture executives claim that this alleviates problems involved in having multiple management consoles for alerts.

The product can provide generators, rack monitors, Computer Room Air Conditioning units and security systems to sit throughout data centers to help identify potential disruptions. It can set thresholds on hardware to make sure energy isn’t overused.

Additionally, the company claims Aperture VISTA Infrastructure Monitoring is the first data center management application that allows equipment from different vendors to be monitored from a single console.
