CommScope Cranks Out Cables
By Jeff Feinman

May 15, 2008 — Wireless communication product provider CommScope has created a cabling product for data centers that attempts to achieve easy installation.

The SYSTIMAX InstaPATCH Cu, announced in early  April, includes a pre-measured cable, pre-terminated connecting hardware, and ports already configured to speed up cable installation for networks using the Category 6 and 6A cabling standard. CommScope executives said that SYSTIMAX InstaPATCH Cu cabling can be customized for different networks, and CommScope representatives will work with IT managers to cater to data center and network needs.

After an evaluation, CommScope will test all harnesses and ports to make sure each component is working properly, according to the company.

SYSTIMAX InstaPATCH Cu is applicable to switch applications in the data center. The product’s source-destination labeling and pre-termination capabilities can reduce the amount of time needed to install data center devices. A device called SwitchPack can combine multiple plug ends into a single unit that can be plugged into a high-density switch or server.

CommScope is a Richardson, Texas-based company that focuses on network infrastructure, providing cables, software and network design services for IT organizations.
