Datacastle Towers Over Data Protection

April 1, 2008 —  Endpoint data protection company Datacastle has added a continuous data protection (CDP) engine and unbreakable security and privacy to its namesake software.

The CDP engine incorporates data backup, offline data file protection, and automatic resumption of data transmission for aiding regulatory data retention requirements, company executives said. Datacastle’s enhanced software, which will be available in May through authorized Datacastle managed service providers, has new master encryption keys that provide three layers of encryption and ensure that all metadata is encrypted. The company claims that other data protection offerings often don’t encrypt metadata.

“Datacastle is making endpoint data protection unobtrusive and unbreakable for enterprises that are otherwise at risk of not only losing vital data, but also jeopardizing their business credibility and value,” said Gary Sumner, CEO of Datacastle. Sumner was a Microsoft product leader for 10 years prior to being the founder of Datacastle, serving in roles such as technical architect for the communications sector and product unit manager for Microsoft’s “Live” services.

Also new in Datacastle’s endpoint data protection software is a feature called Lock, Wipe, Trace that can update selected files if the computer or device is out of policy, and back up data on the Internet if the device is lost or stolen.

Datacastle has also introduced a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model of its endpoint data protection software. The company said the SaaS model can drive up average revenue per user and optimize return on data center assets.

Datacastle was founded in 2005, and is based in Seattle.
