Supermicro Serves Up SuperServers

Supermicro released 1U and 2U SuperServers that work with 2.5-inch SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) hard disk drives. The line of SuperServers comes as 1025C-UR and 1025W-UR versions that both handle SAS hard disk drives. These SuperServers are designed for clustering servers and for business critical applications, the company said. The servers were made with Supermicro’s Universal I/O architecture to hold up to three add-on cards in a 1U form factor. The SuperServers can hold up to 128GB of Fully Buffered DIMM memory, with 16 “hot-swap” SAS drive trays.

MKS Adds to Toolkit

MKS made available version 9.2 of its Toolkit product for development in 32- and 64-bit Windows environments, and released version 8.5 of MKS X/Server. New features available in Toolkit 9.2 include compatibility with Microsoft Visual Studio 2008, the ability to work with C/C++ compilers and compatibility with Windows Vista SP1 and Windows Server 2008. The MKS X/Server now has enhanced RPS and VPN connection handling, according to the company.

Aldon Releases Community Manager 8

Application change management company Aldon released Aldon Community Manager 8, its service desk management product. According to Aldon, the product now has sub-task sequencing, an ITIL v3-compatible service desk, ITIL templates, enhanced workflow templates and other project management features. Aldon Community Manager 8 has a new dashboard that is equipped with controls for customizing content and a mashup capability that can bring in external data.

Tidal Puts Reporting on Shore

Tidal Software, a creator of application scheduling and performance management software, released Intelligent Reporting for Enterprise Scheduler. The new product provides information on enterprise job scheduling, according to the company. It has more than two-dozen reports for production day status and job history, and its reports can be accessed online through a browser or on a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. The product also allows limits to be placed on which individuals or departments can view specific reports.

VMware Sees First Quarter Growth


VMware posted 2008 first quarter revenue of US$438 million, a 69 percent increase from the same quarter a year prior. Operating income for the quarter was $48 million, and net income was $43 million. VMware said that software license revenue grew 73 percent compared to the same quarter a year before, increasing to $294 million.
