Brocade Hosts Fast Adapters

June 27, 2008 —  When Ethernet just isn't fast enough, it's time for some fibre channel. Brocade released yesterday four new host bus adapter cards and three new switches to go with them; all use fibre channel to reach speeds of up to 8 gigabits per second. These new speedy networking adapters include updated monitoring features that can be used to track performance from afar.

The new Brocade host bus adapters come in two flavors. The 415 and 425 offer 4Gbps transfer speeds, while the 815 and 825 top out at 8Gbps. Both types of adapters are available as PCI cards.

Brocade’s new switches, on the other hand, are more flexible in their configurations. The Brocade 300 can be rigged with 8, 16 or 24 ports, while its larger cousins, the Brocade 5000 and 5100, range from 24 to 40 ports. All of these ports run at both 4 and 8Gbps. The Brocade 300 and 5000 are both 1U in height, while the 5100 takes up 1U.

Brocade’s host bus adapters now include quality of services monitoring, encryption support and new mobility features. The cards will work with Linux, Solaris, VMware and Windows.
