NetScout and Netuitive Improve Service Health Views
By Michelle Savage

April 21, 2008 — Two new announcements promise increased opportunities for IT managers to customize their access to management systems. NetScout's latest product, nGenius K2, claims to provide greater flexibility and depth of analysis, while Netuitive’s integration with Hewlett Packard OpenView Operations (HP-OVO) provides the ability to correlate HP data with third-party monitoring data.

nGenius K2, announced April 14, offers a clear, high-level view of the current state or health of applications and services measured from the network perspective, where all of those services must come together to be delivered to business end users.

This quick overview is backed up with contextual drill-down into flow and packet details for rapid problem diagnosis, dramatically reducing Mean Time to Repair/Restore. The company said that this view is unique to nGenius K2 since NetScout builds its network and application monitoring solutions on the foundation of packet-flow monitoring technology—the most definitive source of network, application and service performance data.

The company claims that other technologies analyze the health of applications and services from incomplete viewpoints, such as the infrastructure elements or snapshots of end-user experience, and in so doing, miss out on an increasingly complex and vital base of information—the dynamic interactions between elements.

On April 16, with Hewlett Packard OpenView Operations, an advanced integration, was announced. According to Netuitive, this solution allows customers to automatically correlate HP-OVO data with monitoring data from third-party vendors to enable an end-to-end view of service health.

Netuitive self-learning software performs statistical trends analysis and correlation to automatically determine normal system behavior, measure and predict deviations from the norm, and interpret symptoms for accurate alerting and diagnosis. The product deploys without any manually created rules, scripts or thresholds.

In addition to third-party tools, information from HP SiteScope, HP Business Availability Center and HP Universal CMDB can also be incorporated into Netuitive’s service models.
