Avocent Updates IT Business Management Suite

July 29, 2008 — Avocent Corporation, an IT operations management solutions provider, released yesterday the latest version of its Touchpaper IT Business Management suite, a tool that helps companies manage and track the life cycle of new releases where multiple changes can be built, tested and released.

Version 7.2.5 of Touchpaper IT Business Management suite comes with numerous usability enhancements, including the launch of Touchpaper Release Management Process Pack, which helps companies quickly introduce new hardware and software into the IT system; manage the release process from start to finish; and control any risk associated with change processes, including lost revenue and service opportunities. The Process Pack includes a predefined process with preconfigured queries, and it supports the service life-cycle principles of the IT Infrastructure Library version 3.

On July 1, Avocent bought Touchpaper Group Ltd. for about US$45 million. Prior to that, Avocent had an existing relationship with Touchpaper in which LANDesk (another Avocent company) resold the Touchpaper service desk technology as a product. Avocent said that, by owning the technology, it could offer greater benefits to the company because it would have the opportunity to tweak features to meet the needs of the U.S. customer base.

Avocent said that this new release can significantly reduce the time required to manage releases, freeing up IT to focus on more strategic projects.
