Ipswitch adds Web Transfer Module to server software

October 14, 2008 —  Ipswitch announced the release of version 7 of its WS_FTP Server software, with updated authentication and security options aimed at providing a sophisticated, yet manageable and simple-to-use, file transfer platform.

The FTP server is still offered in three configurations: the baseline server package, a version that allows the use of SSH, and at the top of the line, WS_FTP Server Corporate. The corporate edition adds in LDAP authentication with automatic failover and cryptography features that are validated for FIPS 140-2 compliance.

The WS_FTP Web Transfer Module is also included in the corporate edition, allowing authorized users to secure transfer files using HTTPS without the use of desktop-based client software. Also new in WS_FTP Server 7 is a lockout feature that can automatically block IP addresses that exceed a threshold for failed connection attempts, and the ability to use encrypted SCP2 connections for secure file transfers.
