Motorola Unveils Tools for Next-Gen Wireless Networks
By P J Connolly

October 15, 2008 — Wireless networking in business environments can be a complex undertaking, especially in multi-building or campus environments. Motorola announced new and updated tools for the design and management of wireless networks, expanding the reach of its One Point Wireless Suite with automatic provisioning and link planning features.

The suite’s components can be used individually or in combination. They include Mesh Planner for designing meshed networks and backhauls for point-to-multipoint setups, and the PTP LinkPlanner for designing point-to-point links. LANPlanner v11.0 adds the ability to simulate 802.11n networks that exploit the latest in wireless technology, while the new Wireless Manager 2.0, handles deployment, provisioning and operational management. Wireless Manager is expected to be released early next year.

The RF Management Suite works with Wireless Manager to offer a single point of control for a wireless environment, whether indoors or outdoors. Wireless Manager’s interface provides a unified view in an embedded Google Maps environment that allows real-time visualization of network health, including device-specific details and historical trend analysis.
