CA Adds Data Loss Prevention With Orchestria Purchase
By Jeff Feinman

January 5, 2009 — CA has signed a definitive agreement to acquire data loss prevention (DLP) company Orchestria. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The deal, announced today, will bring together Orchestria’s DLP technology and CA’s identity and access management products. CA executives said that by using products from the two companies, organizations and auditors can strengthen and consolidate their security functions.

Orchestria’s DLP technology also complements CA’s server protection capabilities, and it can help secure an organization’s information while the server is in motion, at rest, or at endpoint. This helps prevent data breaches, and can improve privacy and compliance initiatives, the company said.

This is CA’s third security-related acquisition in the past three months, as part of its goal to deliver integrated identity and access management technologies. CA agreed to acquire identity management companies IDFocus and Eurekify in October and November, respectively.

“With this acquisition, CA will deliver one of the broadest and most advanced information security solutions in the market today and [will] address the demand for a new generation of identity and access management,” said Dave Hansen, corporate senior vice president and general manager of CA’s security management unit.

By acquiring Orchestria and its DLP offerings, CA enters a market that features companies like Cisco, McAfee and Symantec.

Orchestria is based in New York, with two additional offices in the United Kingdom. The company was founded in 2000 and employs more than 125 people.
